Artist Statement

Cosmic Symbolism & Metaphysical Abstraction

My work explores the threshold between the visible and the invisible — the point where light, energy, and cosmic structures begin to form a visual language. Moving between painting and digital media, I construct symbolic architectures that function as contemplative spaces, where color, vibration, and form become tools for examining existence.

My practice is rooted in the intersection of science and metaphysics: the dynamics of the universe, the tension between order and chaos, the perception of time, and the hidden structures that shape reality. Through layered luminosity, spontaneous gestures, and graphic elements, I create works that do not depict the cosmos but evoke it. Each piece becomes a map of an inner state, an attempt to translate abstract phenomena — gravity, expansion, resonance — into visual experience.

While my influences include artists such as Kandinsky, Pollock, Richter, and Dalí, my direction is deeply personal: a search for meaning, connection, and a forward‑looking spirituality. My work is not anchored in trauma or darkness but in possibility — in the belief that art can open conceptual dimensions and reshape how we perceive existence.

Whether working on canvas or in digital environments, I aim to create images that breathe, pulse, and invite the viewer into a space of reflection. My art is a continuous act of mapping both the inner and outer universe, transforming the unknown into light.

Biography

Professional Artist Biography

Albert Deak (b. 1964) is a British visual artist of Transylvanian origin whose practice bridges cosmic symbolism, metaphysical abstraction, and graphic structures inspired by science and philosophy. Trained in the tradition of decorative arts, he combines the precision of object design with the expressive freedom of painting and digital media.

He graduated from the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, majoring in Ceramics — a qualification officially recognised in the United Kingdom as a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours), RQF Level 6, according to UK ENIC. His academic path began at the Marin Sorescu Art High School, where he completed the European Baccalaureate in Visual Arts with a focus on graphic design.

Deak’s early career unfolded in the porcelain industry as an industrial designer for ARPO SA, where he created decorative objects and fine porcelain tableware. This experience shaped his understanding of materiality, structure, and form — elements that continue to influence the architectural quality of his compositions.

Since 1991, he has developed an independent artistic practice spanning graphic design, digital painting, illustration, web design, and canvas painting. His work also extends into political caricature, NFT experimentation, and small‑scale ceramic production. Participation in international exhibitions has strengthened his presence within the global contemporary art landscape.

Today, his practice focuses on painting and digital art, exploring cosmology, energy, light, and the metaphysical architecture of existence. His works function as symbolic maps — visual translations of inner and outer universes, built through layered luminosity, spontaneous gestures, and graphic precision.

Interview

Conversations on Cosmic Symbolism & Metaphysical Abstraction

Q1. Your work often explores cosmic structures and metaphysical themes. Where does this fascination originate?

My interest in cosmology began early, long before I had the language to describe it. I’ve always been drawn to the tension between what we can see and what we can only sense — the invisible forces that shape reality. Art became the place where I could translate these intuitions into form, color, and symbolic structure.

Q2. How do science and metaphysics influence your creative process?

For me, they are not opposites but complementary ways of understanding existence. Science offers structure, logic, and pattern; metaphysics offers meaning, possibility, and the unknown. My work sits between these two worlds, using visual abstraction to bridge them.

Q3. You work across both digital and traditional media. How do these mediums interact in your practice?

Digital media allows me to explore luminosity, layering, and movement in ways that are impossible on canvas. Traditional painting brings tactility, unpredictability, and a physical presence. I don’t see them as separate disciplines — they inform each other, and together they expand the vocabulary of my work.

Q4. Many of your compositions feel like symbolic maps or energetic diagrams. Is this intentional?

Yes. I think of my works as architectures of perception — visual spaces that invite contemplation. They are not literal maps, but symbolic ones: diagrams of emotion, memory, vibration, and cosmic resonance. Each piece is a kind of internal cartography.

Q5. How has your background in ceramics and design shaped your current artistic direction?

Ceramics taught me discipline, structure, and respect for materials. Design taught me clarity and intention. These foundations remain present in my work today, even when I’m operating in abstract or digital realms. They give my compositions a sense of order within the chaos.

Q6. What role does intuition play in your creative process?

A central one. I begin with a conceptual direction, but intuition guides the execution. I allow the work to evolve, to surprise me, to reveal its own logic. The best pieces are the ones where I stop controlling and start listening.

Q7. Your recent works seem to move toward a more luminous, expansive visual language. What drives this evolution?

I’m increasingly interested in light — not just as a visual element, but as a metaphor for consciousness, transformation, and possibility. The shift toward luminosity reflects a desire to create spaces that feel open, expansive, and alive.

Q8. What do you hope viewers experience when encountering your work?

I hope they feel a moment of stillness — a pause that allows them to connect with something beyond the surface. My work is not about giving answers but opening pathways. If a viewer feels a sense of resonance, curiosity, or inner expansion, then the work has fulfilled its purpose.
